Construction Behind Comfort

When it comes to sofa construction there are several seating options. Most furniture seeking a sleek, clean contemporary look uses Pirelli webbing or sinuous no-sag spring construction. The oldest system, 8 way hand tied coil suspension, is rarely used in modern furnishings. Pirelli is a no steel, lightweight webbing that is attached directly to the frame and woven together providing a firm European style seat that offers plenty of support.

Sinuous no-sag springs are composed of tempered steel that is placed in a zig-zig pattern to help distribute tension.  These springs provide a softer, more flexible seat.

Color Lift

Pantone recently chose Tangerine Tango to be the 2012 color of the year. This bright reddish-orange hue arrived during a time when people in this country needed a boost of enthusiasm and has been called “encouraging, hopeful and optimistic” by Time News Feed. Designers worldwide are now rushing to add the color to their most recent collections of fashion and home furnishings. Here at EWF Modern, we understand the importance of adding this color as well as other bright colors to your home. By introducing at least one bold shade into each room you can instantly enliven your living space along with your mood.

Here are a few examples of accessories for purchase in our Pearl District showroom that will add warmth and spirit to any room.

Loving Pantone's color of the year? If so, this adorable side table would be the perfect addition to your home.

Here's another way to incorporate Tangerine Tango into your home! This fabulous pendant would look great hanging over a dining table.

On the opposite side of the color wheel is green, and this quirky, heavy, cast resin doorstop would look perfect when paired with any Tangerine Tango accessory.

How to Make Small Rooms Appear Larger

Sometimes your living space can feel a little cramped.  Here are a few helpful tips for maximizing the space you have and creating the illusion of a larger area. Choose Light or Bright Paint Colors

Dark paint colors absorb light which can make a space feel smaller.  Choosing a light or bright palette for your walls will be more reflective for both natural and artificial light, thus creating a more airy and open feel.  Creams, light grays, blues and yellows will work best.

Clean Up the Clutter

Nothing will make a small room feel even tighter than a bunch of extra accessories!  Keep the room tidy by choosing only a few accent pieces, and instead of hanging multiple pieces on the wall, choose one large painting or picture.

Multipurpose Furniture

Choose pieces of furniture that serve more than one purpose.  Sofas that fold out to beds are a great way to utilize a space by day but also have it function at night.

Pearl District for minimalists – A passion for sustainable style. Most everybody has their own shopping circuit in the Pearl District, one of Portland’s most-vibrant arts districts. Bounded by the Willamette River on the north, N.W. Burnside on the south, N.W. Broadway on the east and I-405 on the west, the live-work-play neighborhood covers more than a mile, so it’s easy to not stray from what you know. To get beyond our usual haunts, we turned the minimalist in us loose in search of all things clean-lined.
